Ocean Exploration Trust Deploys Sofar Ocean’s Smart Buoys in the Pacific to Fill Gaps in Marine Weather Data

Sofar Ocean

The Ocean Exploration Trust (OET) and Sofar Ocean have formed a partnership with the shared objectives of exploring uncharted ocean areas and making ocean data publicly accessible.

The Ocean Exploration Trust (OET) and Sofar Ocean first joined forces in 2019, when E/V Nautilus deployed three Spotter buoys during a voyage to American Samoa. Fast forward to 2023, Spotter buoys have now been deployed on various expeditions, collecting critical metocean data to expand its global network of sensors and scale access to in-situ observations for more effective ocean weather and climate forecasting, contributing to a sustainable future.
