Spotter Firmware Updates

Whenever a newer firmware version is available for your Spotter, you will be notified on the Dashboard. If you are interested in looking at the SD card data after your deployment, make sure to download the latest parsing script along with the firmware. The latest firmware updates and parsing script for your Spotter are available on this page (see below).

Computer requirements:

- For Mac you will need to have OS X 10.5 (or newer) and python 2.7 (or newer) installed.
- For Windows you will need to have Windows 7 (or newer) with the proper FTDI driver installed.
- For Linux you will need to have python 2.7 (or newer) installed.

First download the latest parsing script:

Latest Parsing script: | Version 1.8.0 (last updated: October 31, 2019)

Includes:

- Ability to parse 1.8.0 data

- Correlates Spotter millis time to epoch time in SST log files

To use the parsing script follow these steps:

1. Download the parsing script: parser_1.8.0 onto the computer you will use to retrieve Spotter SD card data.

2. Unzip the parser_v1.8.0 file.

3. Be sure you have the following python modules installed: pandas, numpy, scipy

4. Copy the Spotter files and the parsing script into the same directory

5. Open a terminal window at the directory from the previous step and run `python sd_file_parser_v1.8.0`

Next, download the latest firmware:

Latest Firmware Update  |  Version 1.8.0 (last updated: October 31, 2019)

Includes:

- Spotter is now more power efficient with compatible hardware
- Spotter sampling period is more consistently exactly 30 minutes long

Follow the instructions below to install the firmware for your appropriate Operating System.

Installing Firmware with Mac OS:

1. Download the installer package for Mac: Spotter_v1.8.0

2. Connect your Spotter to the computer using a micro-USB cable

3. Turn on the Spotter

4. Double click the .zip file containing the firmware update

5. Double click into the unzipped folder containing the firmware update

6. Double click the flash-upload file (the terminal will show progress bars, process will take 1-2 mins)

7. If successful, the terminal should show “Upload succeeded” when upload is done

8. You can now disconnect the cable, your Spotter firmware is updated!

Installing Firmware with Windows OS:

1. Download the installer package for Windows: Spotter v1.8.0 Uploader

2. Connect your Spotter to the computer using a micro-USB cable

3. Turn on the Spotter

4. Unzip the file containing the firmware update

5. Double click the .exe file and the upload will begin (the upload will take 1-2 mins)

6. If successful, the terminal should show “Upload succeeded” when upload is done

7. You can now disconnect the cable, your Spotter firmware is updated!

Installing Firmware with Linux OS:

1. Download the installer package for Linux: Spotter_v1.8.0_linux

2. Connect your Spotter to the computer using a micro-USB cable

3. Turn on the Spotter

4. Navigate to the downloaded zip file and extract/unzip it

5. Open a terminal in the newly created folder and run `./flash-upload` (the terminal will show progress bars, process will take 1-2 mins)

6. If successful, the terminal should show "Upload succeeded" when upload is done

7. You can now disconnect the cable, your Spotter firmware is updated!
