In April 2022, a large wave unexpectedly wiped out the lineup at Mavericks, a world-renowned surf spot in Northern California. Our Spotter buoy near the break captured compelling data about the origin and nature of the massive swell.

The Spotter buoy's updated wind algorithm greatly improves the reliability of its estimates of wind velocity, particularly at high speeds.
