New real-time data buoys support public safety and recreation in Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary

New real-time data buoys support public safety and recreation in Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary.

With a grant from the Great Lakes Observing System (GLOS), three Sofar Ocean Technologies Smart moorings were installed in October, 2021! The new data collecting devices are located off Two Rivers, Sheboygan, and Port Washington. The moorings will transmit via satellite real-time wind, wave, and water column temperature information that will benefit area stakeholders including charter and commercial fishers, recreational anglers and boaters, divers, and other on-water activities.

View the interactive map with real-time data updates on the GLOS website here.
