Samoa Meteorology Division is the national met service for Samoa, responsible for the forecasts and marine warnings that fishers, boat operators, and coastal communities depend on.
Working with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), the division recently deployed a network of Spotters around Samoa. The deployment was made possible by the European Union-funded Climate Services and Related Applications (ClimSA) Pacific programme.
On Wednesday 7 October, Emmanuel Etimani and Mattaniah Salesa of Samoa Meteorology Division join Sofar Ocean to talk about how the project came together and how the Spotter data will support the community of Samoa.
What we will cover
- The current challenges of ocean observations in Samoa today
- How real-time ocean data can support marine warnings, safety at sea, and coastal planning
- The future of the Spotter network, in Samoa and across the Pacific
Who should attend
